| Smithsonian Institution Federal Enlisted Uniforms of the Civil War
Historians, re-enactors, and Civil War enthusiasts will welcome this reference video depicting the collection of Federal Civil War uniforms preserved in the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History. Thanks to the foresight of General Montgomery C. Meigs, U.S. Army Quartermaster from 1861 until 1882, examples of every piece of clothing authorized for Northern troops during the war were preserved following manufacture at Schuylkill Arsenal near Philadelphia.
The ninety minute full color film offers an overview of the manufacturing system that supplied the uniforms plus measurements and detailed descriptions of mint, unworn jackets, trousers, coats, shoes, hats and more. Most of these uniforms have never been on display. Each tape includes a printed copy of the 1861 federal uniform regulations.
